Wednesday January 13th we hit the road for Quartzsite, we couldn’t wait to get out of the grey foggy valley and into some sunshine! Yesterday we braved the cold and spent the morning washing Big Boy for the trip, we end up soaked, sore & pruney but the coach looks beautiful and is ready to go.
This year we’re camping with others from the Tiffin RV Network, I’m guessing about 30 Tiffin coaches. We have 2 scheduled events where everyone brings a dish... We haven’t established our signature RV pot luck dish yet so we’re bringing a frozen pasta dish from CostCo, hopefully no one will ask for the recipe or we’ll be busted.
Our drive to Quartzsite was uneventful other than that Steve hogged ALL the driving! We met up with fellow Phaetons Gary & Judy around Palm Springs and caravanned the rest of the way in... Hwy 10 was packed with RV’s headed to Quartzsite and there was a definitely a feel of festivity in the air.

We arrived at the campsite Thursday afternoon, at that time there were about a dozen Tiffin Coaches already set up. By Friday night our group had grown to almost 40 coaches, truly a beautiful sight to see. It was great to actually meet folks that up til now we’ve only communicated with via the forum and only guessed what each other looked like based on avatars.
The sunsets were incredible, and after the sun went down we huddled around the fire pit and told tall tales. One night we played a game where you wrapped biscuit dough around the end of the stick (much like a condom) and baked it over the fire, then once cooked filled it from a variety of fillings...
Several Rvers in our group had RZR’s, giving us a great chance to check out features & hauling options. We like the idea of driving it up into the bed of a pickup truck toad the best!
Brannon from Custom RV is a renowned expert in Tiffin customizations & repairs. He drove all the way from Red Bay Alabama to help us all out.. Everywhere he went he was followed by a trail of RV guys picking his brain and trying to sway him to their coach next...
And of course, there was an RV show too! Gadgets, jewelry, rv resorts and clubs brought thousands every day... It was weird to think of buying stuff when we just got rid of so much while downsizing, but we managed :)
Advice, ideas and opinions were plentiful in Quartzsite, we got many great ideas for the coach ranging from customizations, tow packages, solar, tire pressure monitoring systems to maintenance tips, recipes and yard chairs!
